Acceptable use
VioTrack answers one question about one vehicle at a time. That is a deliberate design choice, and this policy makes it a rule as well.
Use it for
- Checking a vehicle you own, or one you are authorised to act for
- Renewing documents for those vehicles
- Acting for customers who have asked you to, if you are an agent or fleet operator
Do not use it for
- Automated or bulk collection. Scripted access, crawling, scraping, or querying many registrations in sequence is prohibited, whether from one connection or many.
- Building a competing dataset. Extracting our results to assemble a database is prohibited.
- Looking up people. Attempting to identify, locate, track or profile a person from a registration number is prohibited. The service does not return owner details and attempting to obtain them is misuse.
- Surveillance or harassment. Checking a vehicle to monitor its owner, or on behalf of anyone doing so, is prohibited.
- Circumventing protections. Rotating addresses or identities to evade rate limits, probing for undocumented endpoints, or reverse engineering the service is prohibited.
- Misrepresenting us. Presenting a VioTrack acknowledgement as a government certificate, or implying we act for an authority when we do not, is prohibited.
How we enforce this
We rate limit, monitor for patterns that do not look like a person checking their own vehicle, and block sources that trip those controls. We may suspend access without notice where the pattern is clear, and we may report unlawful activity to the appropriate authorities.
Reporting a vulnerability
If you believe you have found a security flaw, tell us at security@viotrack.africa before disclosing it anywhere else. Give us reasonable time to fix it. Do not access, alter or retain data that is not yours while investigating, and do not run tests that degrade the service for other people. We will not pursue researchers who follow this in good faith.
